OSES is a Raspberry pi powered DIY handheld, that is designed to be easily assembled and customised. Whether you're just getting started or you're an experienced builder, OSES lets you build a console that reflects your personality - from the case colour, through hardware components, to the ways you want to use it.
OSES and the OSES platform was made by one person, over the course of multiple years..
Ever since I was a kid I have been obsessed with making things, from wood to metal then to plastic, this is the story of why and how I made OSES.
I have been a metal fabricator for close to a decade, where I learnt all about measurement (in the superior metric system), how to read engineering drawings and the process of making things, from design to final product.
After all those years I decided I had enough and wanted to peruse a once failed dream of working with computers. So I signed up for a degree where I learnt design, UX and website development. But this wasn’t to say I lost my passion for tinkering, as I progressed my degree I kept tinkering, doing odd 3D print jobs.
One day I wanted to make a gaming handheld, but couldn’t find any designs online that had analogue sticks or instructions. This is where the idea was born, through many evenings and boring classes I tinkered on CAD designing the first version of OSES.
Jump forward - I have a working prototype to show off. Coming up to my final term at university, we get one more project to really hone our skill, so I decide to go all in on OSES. Where I improve the physical design, meticulously document and design clear, straightforward instructions and create a brand identity.
