Hi I'm Zak, 26 years old and an ex engineer who decided I needed a change of career. I’m currently a student at Media Design School, studying UI/UX, specialising in website design and programming. Using a unique visual design combined with my passion for coding, I create functional, yet aesthetically pleasing websites that would intrigue any user to explore more!
OSES – The Open Sourced Entertainment System is a Raspberry Pi powered DIY handheld console that’s designed to be easily assembled, fully customisable, and accessible to makers of all experience levels. Whether you’re a newcomer to the maker community or a seasoned hobbyist, you can create a handheld console that reflects your personality. From the colour of the case, or the components inside, to the software you run on it, everything can be customised.
In collaboration with Auckland Museum, our team was tasked with creating a unique web experience inspired by their “Weird and Wonderful” exhibition. After extensive planning and research, we developed a fully-fledged web game centered around a takahē who dreams of flying. The game features three levels and two animated cutscenes, complete with original characters, audio, and animations.
This project we got the unique opportunity to work with Sony Music and their Client, NZ duo “Made you Look” Our group pitched a unique idea as part of their album release campaign to feature a video game on their official website. The game was programmed by me, using html canvas and lots of Javascript. I also tried my hand at 8 bit game art and music, making all the assets you see in game; background, characters, soundtrack etc
Misdiagnosis is a huge problem for everyone, but is amplified for women. Endometriosis is a debilitating disease that 10% of women suffer from, but is also the most misdiagnosed.
As scams and fraud grow in numbers and complexity I thought it was a good idea to improve upon official learning resources and their design. Featuring a visual throwback to the 90’s, this website is designed in the theme of Windows 98, set with interactions and fully responsive design for mobile and desktop! Future iterations of this website would include learning material and an interactive game users can play to learn how to “stay safe” online
